Sunken Forest

Sunken Forest, Fire Island

August 30, 2015

A forest at the beach? Yes!

The Sunken Forest on Fire Island National Seashore, is a 300 year old primeval holly forest, which is the only one of its kind on the East Coast.

A great place to escape the heat from the beach. It’s cool, quiet. A wonderful short hike. And deer and red fox can be spotted along the trail.

This is one of my favorite places.
